Safe Routes to School Committee (SRTS)

The R. D. White Elementary School Safe Routes to School Committee (SRTS) implements and promotes efforts to improve the health and safety of our children.

Our goals are as follows:

  • To create a safe environment for students as they arrive and depart from school

  • To promote physical activity and wellness of our students through increased walking and biking to school; and
  • To reduce traffic and pollution around our schools by encouraging more walking and biking, and fewer car trips

We utilize the 5 key elements of the nationally recognized Safe Routes to School Program—Education, Engineering, Encouragement, Enforcement and Evaluation – to accomplish these goals.

The SRTS Committee helped start and operates the Mustang Valet morning drop-off lane, the afterschool Park and Walk process, and organizes the school’s “First Friday” Walking School Bus Days,  International Walk-to-School Day and Bicycle Safety events.   There are opportunities for volunteerism at many levels.   If you are interested in the health and safety of our children, and improving our overall community, please join us!   The Parent Handbook and weekly school flyers list the dates of our monthly committee meeting!   We meet monthly at 7 pm in the school library.
